Tenacity & Paying it Forward

1) Tenaciousness is a competency

One behavior I have adapted over the last two months is being very open minded. I have to keep an open mind in order to brainstorm new ideas and think from the mindset of an entrepreneur.

Another behavior is not being afraid to approach strangers. In this class, you must conduct many interviews. If you wish to pursue a career in entrepreneurship, you will also have to master the skill of interviewing. In these interviews, you will discover information about potential customers and your product that will be vital to the developmental process of your business.

2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude

There have been a moment or two where I have been overwhelmed. Especially being a shy person, the interviews have been a stressor for me throughout the past two months. There have been times when I did not know exactly what road I wanted to pursue for my product and found myself lost when deciding who to interview. All I can say is just step out of your comfort zone and try it. After approaching one or two people it became a lot more natural to me. I found it fun to engage with strangers and learn about things from their point of view. Through this experience, I definitely believe I have developed a tenacious attitude. Even after receiving negative feedback, I still pushed through to accomplish what I set out to do.

3) Three tips

1. Be bold and don't be afraid to put your ideas out there even when you haven't fully formulated them. You'll come to find that when asking and doing deep thinking into your idea, you'll learn so much more about where you want your product to go and particular attributes you want it to have.

2. Be passionate. Find what intrigues you most and see how you can solve a problem dealing with your passion. Being passionate about something can lead you to have that unstoppable, tenacious mindset when conquering any problem put before you.

3. Set goals for yourself and your business. You will be more motivated to take on your day and finish your checklist. Goals help you quantify the tasks you need to get done to keep you on the right track in order to achieve all you have planned for you and your business.

  1. Hi Taylor,
You make several good points that I find quite relatable. You mention how it's important to set goals for yourself and your business, this is very solid advice, creating a set of goals you need to achieve would keep you more motivated and more likely to stick to a timetable in order to meet them. Being bold is also a good point, owning your idea and championing it is very important to this process, if you aren't passionate about something, you shouldn't be doing it or pursuing it.

  2. Hi Taylor,
You make a very good point about having to be outgoing in this class. I am also a very shy person and a lot of times that has stopped me from asking certain people questions that could help me gather information for the project in this class. I also really appreciate your tip about being bold. It can be really intimidating to people like me who aren't business majors, to be in this class and put our ideas out there when we haven't had as much as experience as everyone else in this course.

  3. Hey Taylor,
I have found that staying open minded and trying to think about ideas from the mindset of someone else to be one of the harder aspects of this course. As people, we are all guilty of developing a type of tunnel vision, focusing only what revolves around our own lives. This course seems to really force us to stop and think about problems from other peoples perspectives.
